PhD student, Tim Gregory visited school today to talk to our Year 5/6 children about his participation in BBC’s Astronauts: Do You Have What it Takes?
The children sat wide-eyed as they listened to Tim describe some of the many challenges he overcame in order to reach the final of the competition. These included; flying a helicopter for the first time; under-water problem solving; scuba diving and tackling challenges whilst experiencing zero-gravity, all designed to assess if he had the qualities needed to become an astronaut.
Tim’s passion for science – which began at a very early age – was tangible. He even brought in a meteor – found in Argentina – which was older than Earth itself! We were all amazed at its beauty and incredible weight!
Tim encouraged the children to follow his example and pursue their dream by following his top tips:
Work hard at school
Find your interests
‘It’s cool to be interested in stuff!’
Tim’s visit supports our passion for science at Woodlands and has certainly enhanced the children’s inquiring minds.
