At Woodlands, we celebrated the 21st World Book Day with great enthusiasm. The theme for this year was ‘Share a Story’. Our day began with all the children and staff sharing a favourite book during assembly and hearing about the wonderful selection of books we could spend our World Book day voucher on. The day continued across the school with the children engaging in a variety of activities designed to promote a love of books and reading.
Reception children were shocked to find all of their books were missing! After some detective work, a trail of paw prints led the children to Mr William’s office - who was discovered with his feet up and reading the missing books!
Other activities across the school included making a peach crumble – inspired by James and the Giant Peach- and the creation of stunning death masks after reading There’s a Pharaoh in Our Bathtub. Some of our children became authors and illustrators themselves, producing their own versions of some traditional tales.
The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all and it has been wonderful to hear and see them so enthused about reading. Plans are already being made for next year’s celebrations!
