Memories

From the Head Teacher, Mr Simon Grilli

I am delighted to be able to welcome you to our website, which we hope will be a source of delight to children, parents, our school community and beyond.

As you will see, Woodlands is a beautiful place with a long history of success, with delightful facilities both inside and out and children who love to learn and who love to share in each other’s successes.

Children are happy to come to their school and remember their school days here long after they have left. Indeed many of the visitors who call on us are parents who came to Woodlands, have now grown up and are bringing their own children to join us.

We want our web-site to reflect the wonderful work which goes on here, to keep visitors informed about the learning which takes place, the wider influence of our work and the special nature of our school community.

We are rightly proud of the standards we achieve, not only in the core areas of Mathematics, English and Science but in our confident use of ICT and in our commitment to a broad and balanced creative curriculum.
Woodlands prides itself on its Eco commitment, its Healthy School status, including a strong focus on the social and emotional development of children, its ICT Mark of 2007 and its intermediate award in provision of the International Dimension. French has been taught each week across Key Stage 2 since 2007.

Our school of just over 300 pupils offers a wide range of teacher knowledge and experience. With an excellent team of classroom support staff and many volunteer helpers, our children are fortunate to have at least two adults in the class for many lessons. Our Parental support is exceptional and children are helped at home with their sporting and cultural interests and homework. Our Parent Association, known as the Friends of Woodlands Association, (FOWSA ) organise an annual programme of social events for the children and parents and raises almost £6,000 a year for additional school needs.

The school recently achieved Extended School Status with opportunities for family learning and breakfast and after school provision.

The school is part of a local school learning partnership called FORTHRIGHT, which works for the advancement of education in Formby. The partnership has been responsible for the introduction across all local schools of innovation in writing and mathematics. The partnership is currently looking to develop community cohesion, the global dimension and the virtual learning environment.
