At Woodlands, we are passionate about providing children with an engaging computing curriculum and equipping them for their future.

We follow a bespoke computing scheme of work which offers creative units of work and delivers a clear progression across each phase. Our curriculum ensures the children can apply their learning across different platforms and technologies, thus embedding their knowledge and ensuring concepts and thoroughly understood.

The curriculum covers:

  • E-safety – personal information, safe sharing including online gaming and social media, online safety, online bullying, how to report incidents, grooming recognition.
  • Coding and computational thinking – building from understanding sequences (and the related vocabulary) to writing increasing complex algorithms including debugging and decomposition across a range of technologies and platforms.
  • Creativity - creating and refining original content using digital tools across a range of media.
  • Computer Networks - using and understanding the internet, the web and search engines, effectively and safely.
  • Productivity - collecting and analysing data and information using computers; organising, manipulating and presenting this to an audience.

We also believe that children should be able to apply these skills into other areas of the curriculum where appropriate. Using these skills will provide children with a further experience of using advanced technology for a purpose.
