Home Learning activities- 20th April onwards

New home learning

We hope that you are all well. We have loved seeing the photos of your home learning so far. It looks like you have had lots of fun while you learn

We are now going to set home learning tasks which we hope will provide more structure to your learning.

These sessions build on what we have already covered in school on place value and the 4 rules of number and are the foundations for secure mathematical knowledge.

Please continue to access MyMaths to supplement the learning and use TTRockstars to consolidate times table knowledge.

Why not head over to our Timestable Rock Stars section of the website and see how well your class or house is doing in competition! See who the MVPs of each match is and see who has won the weekly challenges!!

The sessions are sequenced to build on each other and follow the same reading to writing sequence we follow in school. When you complete the tasks, please remember our high expectations and ‘non-negotiables’.

  • Neat handwriting with finger spaces.
  • Accurate punctuation
  • Check your sentences make sense.
  • Accurate spelling – Year 2 use what we have learned about adding suffixes, phonetically plausible attempts for Year 1.
  • Use the Year 1/2 common exception words list to check you spell these correctly.
  • Extend sentences with conjunctions – and, if, but, so, because
  • Use adjectives to describe.

We will set two new sounds a week along with activities to consolidate sounds already learned.

Year 1, some spelling activities have been provided to help you to practise what we have learned. Try and complete one activity per day.

Year 2, some spelling activities have been provided to help you to practise what we have learned. Try and complete one activity per day.

Rainbow Challenges

Miss Morgan and Mrs Chapman challenge you to complete as many of the Rainbow Challenges as you can before returning to school. Miss Morgan and Mrs Chapman will also be taking part. Look out for our photos on the website!

Our topic for this term is to find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materialscan be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching. We have created a ‘menu’ of activities for you to choose from to investigate this topic and find out about important scientists. Try and complete 2 activities a week.

Our topic is discovering China, their culture, their capital city and their landscape and comparing this with where we live. We have created a ‘menu’ of activities for this topic also and would like you to complete 2 activities a week.

We hope you enjoy the new activities. Don’t hesitate to contact us on woodlandsyear12@gmail.comif you have any questions. Keep sending us your photos.

We hope to see you soon,

Miss Morgan and Mrs Chapman
