Autumn Newsletter 4 [Friday 29th September]

Dear Parents & Carers

I can’t believe just how quickly this term is going by – it’ll soon be Christmas! Its lovely to see how settled the children are. Recently, I’ve been conducting a lot of parent tours for children who are due to start reception in September 2024. Our children always give such a good impression as we walk round the classes, from our new starters in reception & nursery to the ‘old hands’ in Y5&6; they are always focused, eager to learn & well-behaved. The atmosphere around the whole school is warm, welcoming & happy. The children throughout Woodlands really are a credit to their parents & to our school.

I just want to remind you that children in Y5&6 are allowed to bring their mobile phones to school if parents so wish. On entering their classroom at the start of the day, they must hand their phones to their teacher. Children must not use their phones on the school grounds (playing field, playground, etc.). Children must switch them off before they enter the school grounds & they can only be switched on when they’ve left the school site. If they need to phone an adult immediately after school, they can ask their class teacher for permission & will be supervised while they do this. The children are aware of these rules & the sanction that may be imposed if they don’t adhere to them.

We also have some older children who walk home on their own. These children should leave the school grounds (including the playing field & playgrounds) immediately at the end of the day as they are not under adult supervision. They should not be staying behind after school to play on the field, trim trail or playground.

Here are the ‘nudges’ to help you find out about your child’s learning this week: [a profound question from nursery this week – I’ve been pondering this one – here goes: walking my dog, family get-togethers, reading a good book, Darwin Nunez, listening to music, sitting outside a pub in Scotland watching ospreys fish in the bay, Tunnock’s teacakes…]

This week, our whole school attendance is 96.1% - below our 97% target. We have 0 classes with 100% attendance & we have 5 classes equalling or bettering 97%: Blue Class (97.7%), Yellow Class (99.7%), 3G (97.1%), 3/4M (99.3%) & 5/6P (9.1%).

We had 3 classes who had no late marks this week: 3/4M, 5D & 5/6P. We had 19 late mark across the whole school. 17 late mark were ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 2 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

Next week, we’ll be sending out details of how to access our parents evenings (reception – Y6) on Tuesday 17th & Thursday 19th October (4pm - 7pm). Keep an eye for the School Spider message.

Have a lovely weekend

Last word

I advertised a python for sale in the paper, a man rang up and said “What size is it?”

I replied “It’s quite big”

“How many feet?” he asked,

“None, it’s a snake...”
