25.2.20- Year 5/6 football team: Woodlands Vs St Lukes

Scintillating St. Lukes give Woodlands a wakeup call.

Coming off a fantastic season opening win, Woodlands were confident heading into a crunch match with local rivals St Lukes with only Will C the only absentee from the squad list, having been to Canada for some cold weather training.  That confidence was quickly obliterated when St Lukes immediately scored, it was at this point the onslaught began.

Kai S & Ayden H tried their best at the back to stem the storm but St Lukes kept on pressing.  Some outstanding saves from Thomas C could only keep the half time score line to 3-0 to the visitors.

A quick regroup at half time and a couple of substitutions later, saw Sam McK come from the bench to score, swinging the momentum towards Woodlands.   This momentum however, would be short lived as St Lukes quickly fired in a fourth.  Even a Sonny B introduction at the 40 minute mark could not slow down the attacks from St Lukes.

The game ended 8-1 to the visitors.  There were some positives to take and some things to work on.

The team come together again for our next fixture, Woodlands vs Freshfield on Tuesday 3rd March.

6.2.20- Woodlands v St Mary's Little Crosby- Year 5/6 football

Coming off the back of a loss at TSP, Woodlands looked to get their league campaign with a bounce back win.

After a stern team talk, the team began to put into action the hard work that had been done on the training pitch, a lively wing tandem of Jake V and Will C began to put the new high tempo style into action.  As the first half ticked on, the goals began to come after a long sustained period of attack.  First and absolute moment of beauty from Lucas R followed an touch of excellence from Jake V and a hard working goal from Will C.

The team took the half time break to take on some water and recharge the batteries, however a momentary lapse of concentration allowed SMLC the opportunity to get back in the game.  It took a second from Will C to restore the deadline shortly after.

With the score at 4-1, SMLC came on strong and pushed hard, quickly smashing home 2 goals to create some tension in the last few moments.  However, thanks to some staunch defending from Captain Kai S and Ayden H, Woodlands saw they game through and came away with the 3 points in their first league game of the season.
