Goodbye Phil the Lollipop Man

Goodbye Phil the Lollipop Man Assembly

"If someone asked me what the most important thing we do here at Woodlands is, I would have to say

'Making sure everyone here is safe – from the moment you walk through the door into school, we want you to be safe.'

Yes, we also want you to be happy, work hard, try your best all the time, be kind to each other, make healthy choices, stick at it – the list could go on & on & on.

The most important thing is that you are all safe from the moment you walk through the door.

Actually that’s not quite true; we want you to be safe from the moment you set foot on the playground.

Actually, that’s not quite true either – we want you to be safe on your way to school…

And I’m sad to say that we’re saying goodbye to someone who has helped keep us safe for many years. As you may know, Phil the Lollipop Man is retiring – today is his last day. While we’re sad to see him go, we must realise that it’s a great thing for him; he’ll be able to have a lie-in occasionally on a school day, he’ll be able to spend more time with his wife & hopefully he’ll be able to get away in his camper van more.

We just wanted to get everyone together to say goodbye to you. You have been an important part of our community for a long time – I don’t know how many children you have kept safe over the years – it must be thousands & thousands. We want to say ‘Thank you’ for everything you’ve done for – you’re always cheerful, whatever the weather – it doesn’t matter if it’s pouring down, blowing gale or there’s ice on the roads – we know you’ll be there to keep us safe. You’re great with our children, you’re great with our parents & you’re great with our staff – we will all miss you very much.

So thank you Phil – we hope you have a long & happy retirement – and if you’re passing please feel to drop in for a cuppa & to discuss Liverpool’s latest triumphs & tribulations – you will always be welcome at Woodlands.

Three cheers for Phil…"
