Spring Newsletter 3

Dear Parents & Carers

Last Monday, parents & carers with children in reception to Y6 received a ParentMail outlining details of how to book appointments for our parents evenings on Tuesday 8th February & Wednesday 9th February (4pm – 7pm). We’re looking forward to being able to hold face to face meetings again; a range your children’s’ books will be available for you to look through too. As stated in the ParentMail, we are keen to ensure that these parents evenings are held as safely as possible & we have asked parents to follow a series of measures. However, as government guidance changes, we will review these measures with a view to relaxing them. The Google Form link will close at midday on Tuesday 1st February.

Our nursery class parents evenings will be held after February half term.

Woodlands school football team played Our Lady’s of Compassion last night in a tense local derby. The first half began with wave after wave of OLOC attacks. Woodlands’ defence held firm due to some last-ditch blocks, several crunching tackles & the odd moment of good fortune. Slowly but surely, Woodlands gained a foothold in the game. Our midfielders started to hassle & harass OLOC playmakers; passes started going astray; their ball control, which had been so assured during the opening 10 minutes, faltered; frustration set in. A lightning breakaway saw Woodlands take the lead, with Hansen finishing nervelessly after ghosting into the area. 1-0 at half-time. Was there a shock on the cards? OLOC looked rattled. Would the plucky underdogs from Woodlands make it through to the next round of the Liverpool Echo Shield? Memories of great cup upsets from the past came to mind: Wrexham v Arsenal in 1992; the Crazy Gang v The Culture Club in 1988; Hereford v Newcastle United in 1972. Woodlands were in dreamland. As the second period started, thoughts of the next round soon faded. OLOC started the second half in the same manner as they had the first. Woodlands’ goal was under siege. Unfortunately, Woodlands’ luck didn’t hold . OLOC scored two quick-fire goals, followed by a third just before the mid-point of the half. Woodlands’ briefly rallied & threatened to pull a goal back but couldn’t find a way through the opposition’s well-drilled defence. A flurry of substitutions from Mr Grant couldn’t turn the tide. With a few minutes remaining, OLOC scored a long-range thunderbolt to put the result beyond doubt. Losing to such an accomplished side as Our Lady’s is no disgrace; Woodlands players can hold their heads up high knowing they gave OLOC a mighty scare.

Here’s his week’s ‘nudges’ to help you start conversations with your children about their learning…

Nursery

{‘Goldilocks & the Three Bears’}

Reception [Red & Blue]

Y1&2 [Green, Yellow & Purple]

{PSHE topic: ‘Road Safety’}

Y3&4 [3A, 3/4M & 4G]

What is air pollution & how does it affect the environment?

{Science topic: ‘Studying ecosystems & the environment’}

Y5&6 [5D, 5/6P & 6R]

Do you think it was fair that Stanley was sent to Camp Green Lake?

{English topic ‘Holes’ Louis Sachar}

Our overall attendance has risen to at 95.8%. Special mentions must go to 5 classes who achieved attendance of  97% or above: Blue Class (97.5%), 5/6p (98.0%), 4C (98.3%), Green Class (98.4%) & 3G (98.6%). However, congratulations to 6R who managed to have 100% attendance. This was particularly impressive as one child actually had 2 teeth removed by the dentist at the end of the morning but still returned to school in the afternoon!

We had 3 classes who had no late marks this week: Yellow Class, 3/4M & 6R. Punctuality: 17 late marks across the whole school. 12 late marks ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 5 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

I hope you enjoy the weekend.
