Nursery Week Beginning 18th May 2026

Date: 13th May 2026 @ 10:04am

This week, we will continue our learning about minibeasts reading the story 'The very Hungry Caterpillar,' by Eric Carle. We will make our very own caterpillars by threading beads onto string. We will talk about the length of our caterpillars comparing which one is longer and which one is shorter.

In maths, we will be reinforcing our learning about pattern. We will thread our caterpillars using coloured beads creating an AB pattern. We will describe our pattern caterpillars to our friends and we will make predictions about which bead will come next. We will also notice that patterns can be made using sounds, actions and movements. We will sing songs involving different patterns and make up our own pattern dances.

At home - What patterns can you spot around you? Can you make up your own pattern dance?

During our outdoor learning session we went on a minbeast hunt. We thought about where diffferent minibeasts might live and we looked under logs and leaves to see what we could find. We discovered lots of woodlice and ants and we also saw ladybirds, slugs, worms and a butterfly.

At home - Have a look in your garden or on a walk in your local area and see what minibeasts you can spot.

This week in Nursery we had some minibeasts come to visit us - Tiny Tim and Spongebob Square Pants the snails! We enjoyed finding out all about them. We watched carefully to see how they moved and noticed the beautiful spiral patterns on their shells.
