Nursery Week Beginning 26th January 2026

Date: 21st Jan 2026 @ 4:47pm

This week we will read another traditional tale - The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Before reading the story, we will look at the front cover of the book and make predictions about what the story may be about and what might happen in it. We will talk about the setting of the story and the characters. We will focus not only on the Billy goats but also on the troll, thinking about adjectives that describe both his physical characteristics and his personality.

After thinking of words to describe the troll, we painted our own.

At home - Can you talk about the characters in the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff? Can you think of some words to describe what they look like?

In maths, we are focusing on numbers within 3 with a particular emphasis on the number 2. We will notice how many spaces are full and how many are empty when placing the correct number of objects on a five frame. We will also discuss things that come in pairs and we will match pairs of objects.

We matched up the pairs of mittens and pegged them together.

At home - Can you find any pairs of objects?

Our rhyme of the week is Five Little Speckled Frogs. This is a rhyme which the children know really well and love to act out in our nursery garden. We are sure they will love teaching this rhyme to you at home!
