Nursery week beginning 9th February 2026

Date: 4th Feb 2026 @ 2:56pm

This week we are completing our learning about The Three Billy Goats Gruff. After retelling the story last week using story maps and looking in detail at the characters, this week we will use puppets and role play masks to act out the story.

We are also going to accompany our story telling with instruments. We will have to think very carefully about which instruments to use for each character and why.

At home - Have you got a favourite story that you could retell using your toys? Perhaps you could even make up a story of your own.

As part of Mental Health Week, we read the story Incredible You by Rhys Brisenden and Nathan Reed. We talked about the word incredible and what it means. Then we discussed how we are all incredible and unique. We looked at photographs of our local area and discussed where we like to go and where we feel safe. We made a fantastic map which included some of these places.

In maths, we are looking closely at the number 3. We will place it on a five frame noticing how many spaces are full and how many are empty. We will use our subitising skills to recognise quantities of 3 and not 3.

Our rhyme of the week is Up the tall White Candlestick.
