Nursery Week Beginning 1st June 2026
Date: 20th May 2026 @ 4:12pm
This week we are beginning our new theme - Under the Sea. We will begin by reading the story 'Maui Hooks the Islands,' by Gabrielle Ahul'i.
We will look at the front cover of the book and make predictions about what it might be about and what might happen in the story. We will also explore the feelings of Maui at different points in the story. We will talk about how he felt at the beginning and how he felt at the end. We will discuss how his feelings changed during the story and why.
At home - Can you talk about your feelings? What makes you happy, sad or angry? How can you make yourself feel better if you are feeling upset or angry?
In our creative area, we will make our very own island complete with a volcano for use in our small world area. We will have to work co-operatively with our friends, taking turns and sharing resources.
During our maths sessions, we will be using the language of capacity to compare the size of a variety of containers. By pouring water from one container to another we will work out which container holds more and which container holds less. We will use the language of 'full', 'empty' and 'half full.'
At home - Compare the size of some different containers. Which holds the most? Which holds the least?
