Autumn Newsletter 4 [Friday 24th September]

Dear Parents & Carers

We’ve had another hard-working, learning-packed week in school, culminating with Odd Socks Day! The idea to raise much-needed funds for Cancer Research UK came from one of our Y6 pupils; this is a charity close to her heart. The House Captains helped organise the day: write the letter you received via ParentMail and scripted & presented an assembly. They worked diligently & independently to ensure their first task as House Captains was a great success! Their commitment raised £326.79 for Cancer Research UK.

Next Thursday, we will be holding our Harvest Festival assembly which will be led by Rev. Dr. Matt Davis from St. Luke’s Church who will give the children a Christian perspective of Harvest. Thank you to those of you who have sent in donations for Southport Foodbank; we would be grateful if any remaining items could be sent in by Wednesday 29 September.

Here’s the conversation starters to help you find out about your child’s learning in class this week:

Nursery

This week we have been exploring our library, what is your favourite book to read?

Reception [Red & Blue]

Can you name the rooms in your house?

Which is your favourite?

Y1&2 [Green, Yellow & Purple]

What are the primary colours?

Can you name some secondary colours?

{Art topic: ‘Colour’}

Y3&4 [3A, 3/4M & 4G]

What are the names & functions of the 4 different types of teeth?

{Science topic: ‘The Human Body’}

Y5&6 [5D, 5/6P & 6R]

What was life like for soldiers in the trenches on the Western Front during WWI?

{History topic ‘World War I’}

Again, no classes achieved 100% in their attendance this week & our overall attendance has remained stranded at 97.2%.

We had 5 classes who had no late marks this week: Blue Class, Green Class, Yellow Class, 3/4M, & 5/6P. There were 11 late marks across the whole school – let’s try to get into single figures next week!

We only have one space left on our reception Open Mornings on Tuesday 5 October (Thursday 7 October is now fully booked). Please contact the school office if you would like to book this place. If you, or a family that you know, couldn’t make the open mornings, a school tour can be booked through the school office 01704 876444 or email admin@woodlandsschoolformby.co.uk

Enjoy the weekend

Last word

I bought my daughter a fridge for her birthday.

I can’t wait to see her face light up when she opens it…
