As we entered lockdown (school closed on 20th March) our raised bedds outside the school office had just been completed. Over the next few weeks, the key worker children who were coming to school each day, helped plant a variety of vegetables: beetroot, potatoes, broad beans, onions, basil, runner beans & garlic. Some failed to establish - the garlic & basil were were not brilliant - but others, such as the potatoes, broad beans & onions, were a great success. The sprouts, kindly donated by Delilah in Y5, are still happily growing away, as are the runner beans.
The children had a wonderful time tending the plants & thoroughly enjoyed watering them(selves) too!
The harvest has been shared out amongst key worker children, their parents & Woodlands' staff.
We're already planning on what we're going to plant in the autumn.
