Harvest Festival Appeal 2021

Dear Parents & Carers

I am pleased to announce that we are able hold our Harvest Festival Appeal once again this year. We are requesting donations of tinned & packet goods (no fresh food please) and everyday toiletries & cleaning products into school with your children. As previously, we will be donating all items to Southport Foodbank.

The items needed are as follows: cold meats, sugar (500g), fruit juice (carton), pasta sauces, sponge pudding (tinned), tomatoes (tinned), rice pudding (tinned), tea bags, instant mash potato, rice/pasta, tinned meat/fish, tinned vegetables, tinned fruit, biscuits or snack bar, squash or packaged or tinned food. Southport Foodbank urgently needs the following items: instant coffee, jam, sweets (confectionary|), desserts (e.g. small pots of jelly & Angel Delight), washing up powder/tablets (small boxes), ladies & gents razors, ladies & gents deodorants, washing up liquid.  Please try to avoid sending in ladies’ sanitary items, cereal, milk, soup & beans as the stocks of these items are currently high.

Please send your donations into class with your child from today & by Wednesday 29th September.

At Woodlands, we realise the importance of developing our children’s understanding of the world around them & developing empathy for others.

Southport Foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area. They provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to then in crisis. Southport Foodbank is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

We hope to arrange a visit to Southport Foodbank for our House Captains; they will then lead an assembly to tell the rest of the children what happens to the items donated & how the food bank supports those in need.

Also, we will be holding an assembly to explain the Christian perspective of Harvest. It will be led by Rev. Dr. Matt Davis from St. Luke’s C of E Church Formby on the morning of Thursday 30th September.

Thank you for your support.

Kind regards,

Keith Williams
