The Woodlands Swimming Team emerged overall winners of the Formby Swimming Gala that took place at Crosby Pool last Friday. All members of the team, which included a couple of late replacements, reached the finals of their event, with many taking a top three medal position. Of the ten race finals, the school gained four firsts and two seconds, with the team winning three out of the four relay races. Mr Grilli and Mrs Jennings commented on the wonderful team ethic of the group and delight and enthusiasm of all the children. Later that same day the children, wearing their medals and holding the cup, presented themselves and their trophies to the whole school in the weekly ‘Celebration Assembly’. One of the children who only found out they were in the team as a replacement on the previous Monday, was so excited that he went to the pool to practice for an hour and a half with his dad the night before. Others couldn’t believe they had made it to the final of their event and kept repeating, ‘Am I really in the final? Are you sure Mr Grilli?’ The cup will now take pride of place in the School Library for the next year.
