Spring Newsletter 4 [Friday 2nd February]

Dear Parents & Carers

Another week completed… one more week until half term – I don’t know where this academic is going!

Y3’s Come Dine with Me was a great success. I’d like to thank all the parents & grandparents who ‘booked a table’ at Woodlands Bistro for the lunchtime service. They were able to choose either:

  • Meat & potato pie with carrots & gravy
  • Mac ‘n’ cheese with broccoli & garlic bread

The feedback Holly & her team received was very unequivocally complimentary: “An excellent meal – I really enjoyed it!”; “Great value, excellent choice”; “Lots of choice, healthy options – fantastic”. When asked how the meal could be improved, people expressed the view that it couldn’t: “No, it’s been fantastic”; “You can’t improve it, it’s great”; “Everything is perfect” (although one person did write “Prosecco!”). My favourite comment was: “Do you do takeaway?” Next Wednesday, it’s Y4’s turn. Family members accompanying their children will be able to choose from the following culinary delights:

  • Honey glazed gammon with seasonal vegetables, paprika roasted potatoes & gravy
  • Vegetarian chilli con carne with long grain rice & Mexican bread

We will be working our way through every year group who can stay for school dinners by the end of the academic year.

Here are the ‘nudges’ to help you find out about your child’s learning this week…

This week, our whole school attendance is 96.0% - below our 97% target. We have 1 class with 100% attendance – congratulations to Blue Class! We have 3 classes equalling or bettering 97%: Yellow Class (98.3%), 3/4M (98.7% & 5/6P (97.7%).

We had only 1 class who had no late marks this week: 3/4M. We had 44 late mark across the whole school. 43 late mark were ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 1 late mark ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

I’ve been asked to share the following from Public Health Sefton: As you will be aware, there are currently a number of Measles outbreaks nationally and we have been made aware of a number of recent Measles cases in the North West, though none in Sefton at the time of writing. The Department for Education has the following online resources which may be useful to share with students, parents and carers:

How to protect against measles – vaccines for school pupils - The Education Hub (blog.gov.uk)

What to do if you think your child has measles and when to keep them off school - The Education Hub (blog.gov.uk)

I’m looking forward to seeing you at next week’s parents evenings.

I hope you all have a restful weekend.

Last word revisited

I walked past a witch & a lion struggling with a wardrobe outside a house in my street.

I asked them what they were doing.

The witch replied. “Narnia business.”
