Spring Newsletter 6

Dear Parents & Carers

Thank you to everyone who attended our parents evenings this week. We are lucky to have such supportive parents; the link between home & school is so important. Thank you for completing the parent surveys too – we really do value your feedback. The teachers appreciate the lovely comments too.

Last Friday, Woodlands children from Y1 to Y6 were able to take part in NSPCC Rocks a competition organised by Times Tables Rock Stars. To find out more about this event & to see who our 3 MVPs are, follow the link below. You’ll also read about a quite staggering achievement by one of our pupils!

Our Patron of Reading, Sean Perkins has been in school over the past couple of days working with children from reception to Y6. Children have taken part in a range of workshops: character creation, description, photography, song writing, as well reading/talking about books. after school Sean also paid a visit to Mrs Chapman’s after school Book Club where he talked to its members giving them further insight into the writing (& illustrating) process he follows.

I’ve been asked to share a message from 2 pupils with regards to World Thinking Day:

Dear Parents & Carers

We are writing to inform you that on Tuesday 22nd February 2022, we will be celebrating World Thinking Day. In doing this, we are asking that your child wear their Rainbow, Brownie, Guide uniform (if they belong to one of these groups). Your child can attend school wearing their uniform for the day.

This is optional so don’t feel your child has to take part even if they are part of Guiding. Money is not necessary for this occasion.

We hope to see lots of children in their uniform on World Thinking Day.

This year’s theme is Our World, Our Equal Future. We will be explaining more about this in a whole school assembly after half term.

Kind regards

Ellie (Guide) & Ayla (Brownie)

Here’s this week’s conversation starters…

Nursery

What happened to the troll at the end of the story?

{‘Traditional Tale: ‘The 3 Billy Goats Gruff’}

Reception [Red & Blue]

What colour is a polar bear's skin?

{Understanding the World}

Y1&2 [Green, Yellow & Purple]

Can you give examples of personal information that you should not share online?

{Computing topic: ‘Safer Internet Day’}

Y3&4 [3A, 3/4M & 4G]

What are the ‘ingredients’ for respectful relationships online?

{Computing topic: ‘Safer Internet Day’}

Y5&6 [5D, 5/6P & 6R]

How is deforestation affecting the Amazon rainforest?

{Geography topic ‘South America’}

This week, our overall attendance has risen ever so slightly to 92.7%. Only one class has achieved an attendance of 97% or more; well done to 3G (99.7%).

We had 5 classes who had no late marks this week: Green Class, Yellow Class, 3/4M, 5D & 6R. It’s been another decent week for punctuality: 13 late marks across the whole school. 6 late marks ‘before the register closed’ – that’s before 9.20am & 7 late marks ‘after the register has closed’, that’s after 9.20am.

Reminder: due to illness, we have rearranged Mr Grant’s (3G) & Mrs Rimmer’s parents evening for after February half term on Tuesday 1st & Wednesday 2nd March (4pm-7pm). Our nursery class parents evening for our N2 children will be held on Tuesday 1st March (1pm-7pm). After half term, we will send out links to Google Forms to enable you to book your appointments.

I hope you have a lovely half term break – the children need to recharge their batteries for the run up to Easter. As ever, in amongst the days out, the tidying of bedrooms & walks with the dog, please make sure your children read every day!
